James Xavier Barbour

 
 

Professor of Fine Arts, Human Anatomy, specialized in techniques of the old masters.

James was born in Dallas, Texas and is of Spanish descent. His passion for art began to form when he was four years old and his works attracted increasing public attention and recognition beginning in his early years. He had his first professional art exhibition before age 14.

Barbour received his Masters of Fine Arts in Painting and Anatomy from the New York Academy of Art, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Hartford Art School in Connecticut.  He has also studied at the Art Students League of New York, and lived in Italy where he exhibited and trained in fresco/mural, traditional Old Masters techniques, and in art conservation. At The New York Academy of Art, he studied under leading artists including Vincent Desiderio, Martha Mayer Erlebacher, Steven Assael, Deane Keller, Wade Schuman, Edward Schmidt, Leonid Lerman, and Stephen Brown.
