Dawn Whitehand

Dawn Whitehand competed her BA in Fine Arts in 2004 and her PhD  in April, 2009.

Aside from a rich aesthetic experience, the ceramic and mixed media sculptures of Dawn Whitehand trigger a sense of our belonging and interconnectness within the world.

Her artworks explore the natural environment through the sculptural possibilities of clay, and the combining of this material with other organic and textured found objects. Dawn sees clay as being the 'skin of the Earth' and believes it to be the most appropriate, and the most expressive medium capable of capturing the essence of the vulnerability of the environment.

The clay component of the sculptures are wheelthrown, enclosed and manipulated to reflect the organic qualities of the landscape. The application of visually tactile glazes and surfaces heightens the connection of the sculptures to the environment, so that the viewer is drawn closer to their natural self and their innate belonging within the natural world. Selected sculptures are then given greater depth by combining them with other materials that heighten the visual tension.

Works are made for the interior, including free standing sculptures and wall works, and the natural settings of gardens and outdoor spaces, including water works.

Art work values average from  $350  to $3000 . Request an email with sizes + price/availabilities for all works in stock
